Functional Testing

The use of functional testing in nutritional therapy can be very useful as it can help us to identify the cause of your health issues by giving us a snap shot of what is happening in your body, at that moment in time.

Functional tests evaluate the functioning capability of the body, helping to provide a detailed record of how individual body systems are functioning and often pinpointing any specific physiological imbalances. The tests can provide valuable additional information, meaning we can tailor your dietary and nutraceutical recommendations very specifically – often fast tracking your journey to optimum health and wellbeing.

As Nutritional Therapist I have access to several reputable laboratories which offer a wide range of private tests, many of which can be self-used in your own home. Other tests can be done via your GP or a specialist.

I will only recommend a functional test if I feel it may benefit the outcome of your health concern. Follow-up testing may also be used to monitor progress.

A test will typically involve a breath, saliva, urine or stool sample, and common non-invasive tests include:

  • Gastrointestinal tests: digestion and gut function analysis – testing for fungal overgrowth, bacterial infections, dysbiosis, status of beneficial bacteria
  • Immunology tests: allergy and antibody profiles – including the body’s reaction to foods and other potential allergens in the environment
  • Endocrine tests and hormone profiles: including adrenal stress hormone profiles, thyroid hormone profiles, sex hormone profiles
  • Nutritional and Toxin Status Assessment: including amino acid profile and organic acid testing

Functional testing is only available to existing clients who have booked the consultation package, this is not offered as a stand alone service.

The costs of the tests vary dependent on the complexity of the test, and they are in addition to the consultation package.

You can find lots of information on the website but if you have any further questions or want to find out whether Nutritional Therapy is for you then let’s get a free 15 minute chat booked in. Alternatively you can go ahead and book the 1:1 consultation package
