About Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional Therapy is all about looking at you and all interconnected body systems as a whole, with the aim to address the root of the problem rather than just treat and possibly suppress a symptom. Nutritional Therapy could provide you with the answers to your health and overall wellbeing that you have always been looking for.

Helping you to de-mystify the world of nutrition is one of my biggest passions, and the aim is to work with you on achieving a natural balance with the help of food and lifestyle medicine. Maintaining that natural balance and optimum health is as important as achieving it, and I will give you the advice and guidance needed to keep you on the right track.

I want to help you be and feel the best you can so that you can live your best life, and I am here to help make that happen by working together.

Nutrition is a complex and fast evolving subject, and research is ongoing in many areas – to say that I am passionate about it is an understatement. There is a lot of conflicting information out there, and it sometimes can be difficult for the public to see through this and figure out what is actually best for their own individual health. Remember that everyone is unique and different! I keep up to date with as much research as possible, and all the recommendations that are in a client’s personalized programme are evidence-based and backed up by science and relevant, high quality studies.

You will have to in put some work yourself and keep at it. Abhyasa – pronounced ah-bee-YAH-sah – means regular and constant practice, effort, and being present. It’s also about being aware of how the food you put in your body does affect you. What we eat and drink fuels the biochemical processes in our body, from giving us energy to feeding our skin and basically keeping us alive.

Nutrition is not a quick fix, which is where the practice and effort references in Abhyasa come in. It’s all about making positive and sustainable changes in line with your own health goals and lifestyle, and some people find the journey easier than others. I can however assure you that once you start seeing and feeling the results you will not want to go back!

BANT, the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine , gives a perfect explanation of Nutritional Therapy:

“Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Registered Nutritional Therapists use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health.

Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional. They will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.”
